How Long Does It Take to Assemble a Cozey Sofa? Setup Time, Tools and Box Sizes

The typical setup time for each of our sofa collections, which tools you need, how big the boxes are and what to prepare before you open them.

An assembled Cozey Ciello sofa with a chaise

Short answer: Our typical setup time is 20 minutes per module for the Atmosphere, Ciello, Ciello XL, Gaia, Neptune, Shinuk and Mistral sofas. The time is per module, so a sofa with more modules takes longer. Our Atmosphere, Gaia and Cassini pages describe tool-free assembly, and our products ship with the hardware needed for setup.

Setup time is a common question, especially from renters and anyone who moves often. A sofa that arrives in separate module boxes is easier to carry, and each module is assembled on its own instead of one large piece at once.

How long does each sofa collection take to assemble?

These are our typical setup times for one person following the assembly guide in the box. Your own pace may differ, and the time is per module, not for the whole sofa.

Atmosphere20 minutes per moduleTool-free assembly. Legs are in a zipper compartment inside each seat base.
Ciello and Ciello XL20 minutes per moduleLegs and hardware are packed inside the module boxes.

To estimate your own total, multiply by the number of modules in your configuration. For example, four modules at 20 minutes each is 80 minutes. That is simple arithmetic rather than a separate time, so treat it as a planning figure. Our modular sofas explained guide shows how modules combine into a layout.

Which of our sofas are tool-free?

Our product pages describe tool-free assembly for the Atmosphere, Gaia and Cassini sofas, and our products ship with the hardware needed for setup. A few collections add a small step, so it helps to know what to expect.

  • Hand screws: Neptune attaches its legs with hand screws, which are tightened by hand. The hardware for Shinuk and Mistral includes hand screws too.
  • Legs with washers and pads: legs ship with matching protective washers and anti slip pads, so a leg kit of eight comes with eight of each.
  • Connectors: module connectors clip under two neighbouring seats. If you have a few left over after setup, that is expected, and you can keep them in case you rearrange your sofa later.

Most of our assembly guides include a QR code that opens an assembly video, and you can find the guides on our assembly guides page.

What should you prepare before you start?

A little preparation helps setup go smoothly.

  • Wait for all boxes. A modular order may arrive in separate boxes on different days, so check the delivery details in our shipping and delivery guide before you begin.
  • Sort the boxes by number. Each carton has a number printed on it, and our guide to which box has my legs and hardware lists what is in each numbered box and where the legs are.
  • Clear a flat space. Open the boxes in the room where the sofa will sit, on a protected floor, so you do not carry finished modules through doorways. This is general advice, not a product specification.
  • Keep the guide and video close. If your assembly guide has a QR code, scan it to watch the assembly video.
  • Check your route before delivery. Our stairs, elevators and doorways guide shows how to match a box to your tightest turn.
  • Plan for help with heavy boxes. The typical setup time for our sofas does not list a second person, but a second person makes the heavier boxes easier to move.

How big are the boxes?

Each collection ships as separate module boxes, and the longest indoor sofa box is 41.7 inches (106 cm). The table shows the longest and heaviest module box for each collection. Leg, hardware and optional headrest boxes are not included.

Our recommendation

  • Fastest to plan: choose a collection with a published time per module, such as Atmosphere, Ciello, Gaia or Neptune, and multiply by your module count.
  • Without tools: Atmosphere, Gaia and Cassini are described as tool-free.
  • Small apartment or walk-up: compare the box sizes above with your stairs before you choose a collection.
  • Bed, dining table or shelving: plan for a second person and extra time, using the times in the table above.
  • Not sure yet: browse our sofas and compare the product pages before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the collection and how many modules you order. Our typical setup time is 20 minutes per module for Atmosphere, Ciello, Ciello XL, Gaia, Neptune, Shinuk and Mistral, so four modules works out to 80 minutes by simple arithmetic, not a separate published time. We have not published a typical time per module for Orian or Cassini. Your own pace may differ, and it helps to have the assembly guide open and your boxes sorted by number before you start.

We do. Our modular sofas ship as separate module boxes, and our typical setup time is 20 minutes per module for most collections. Our Atmosphere, Gaia and Cassini pages describe tool-free assembly, and the hardware for Neptune, Shinuk and Mistral includes hand screws. Legs for Ciello and Ciello XL are packed inside the module boxes, and Atmosphere legs sit in a zipper compartment inside each seat base. Most of our assembly guides include a QR code that opens an assembly video, so you can see the steps before you start.

Our sofa collections ship as separate module boxes. The longest indoor sofa module box is the Orian arm box at 41.7 inches (106 cm), and most boxes are shorter. Gaia, Atmosphere, Ciello and Neptune each have a typical setup time of 20 minutes per module. Compare the box table above with your narrowest stairs or elevator, then multiply the time per module by the modules in your layout. Our guide to measuring stairs and doorways lists the size and weight of each box.

Our tool-free collections, Atmosphere, Gaia and Cassini, suit renters because there is no tool kit to find and each module is carried as its own box. You can also add modules later or rearrange the layout if you move. Check your building for elevator booking rules before delivery day, and compare the box sizes with your tightest turn. Our stairs, elevators and doorways guide explains how to measure a route, and it works for an apartment, condo or walk-up.

The typical setup time for our sofas does not list a second person. A second person still helps when you lift heavier boxes or carry them upstairs, since the heaviest sofa box is the Ciello chaise extension at 59.5 lb (27 kg). Our Ara bed requires two people, and our Vela and Ushi dining tables are ideal with two. Plan for help on those pieces, and for any box that feels heavy.

It depends on the collection. On Neptune and Orian, the legs for the arms are packed under one of the arms in a zipper compartment. On Cassini, they are in a zipper compartment under each seat base, and on Atmosphere, inside the seat base. Our guide to which box has my legs and hardware lists the location for each collection, with the hardware codes and what each box holds. Check the number printed on each carton, because the guide is sorted by those numbers.

Wait until all of your boxes have arrived before you start, because modular furniture may arrive in separate boxes on different days. Our shipping and delivery guide explains how to track your order and how returns work. If a box is missing, damaged or delayed, contact our Customer Happiness team and we will help you. In the meantime, keep the boxes you have received together in one spot, sorted by the number printed on each carton, so you can begin as soon as the last one arrives.
