Short answer: Our sofas, beds and other pieces ship as modules in separate boxes, so what has to pass through your stairs, elevator or doorway is a box, not a finished piece. Each box is listed in this guide with its size and weight. Across our indoor sofa collections, the longest module box is the Orian arm box at 41.7 inches (106 cm), and the heaviest is the Ciello chaise extension box at 59.5 lb (27 kg). Still compare the longest box with your tightest turn, using the steps and tables below.
Because each piece arrives in parts instead of one large item, steep stairs, tight landings and small elevators in condos, apartments and older homes become manageable. Your route still deserves a few minutes with a tape measure, so you can match the longest box to your tightest turn before delivery day.

Why our modules go through tight spaces
Our sofas are modular, so each collection arrives as separate boxes rather than one large piece. Because each box is a module, a sofa can pass through spaces that one assembled piece could not. A sofa order includes seat and backrest boxes and, depending on the collection and your configuration, arm, ottoman, corner or chaise boxes. Depending on the collection, legs and hardware are packed inside the module boxes or sent in small separate boxes. For a breakdown by collection, see which box has my legs and hardware.
Our Ara upholstered bed frame and our dining tables also ship in several boxes, while each mattress ships in one. The sizes in this guide are the carton size and weight for each module.
What to measure along your route
The advice in this section is general guidance for moving any furniture. It is not a Cozey specification, and your building's rules may add their own limits.
- Doorways. Measure the clear opening, from the door stop on one side to the edge of the open door or frame on the other. Hinges, handles and door stops can reduce the usable width, so measure at the tightest point. Measure the height too.
- Hallways and turns. A box that fits down a hallway may still need room to pivot at a corner. Note the width of the hallway and any radiators, light fixtures or railings that stick out.
- Stairs. Measure the width between the walls or between wall and banister, the headroom at the lowest point of the ceiling above the stairs, and the depth of any landing where the stairs turn.
- Landings. A landing where the stairs turn can be the hardest point. Measure its depth and width, and the height of the ceiling above it.
- Elevators. Measure the door opening (width and height) and the inside of the cabin (width, depth and height). Check whether the building asks you to book the elevator or use a service elevator.
- The final doorway. Measure the entrance to the room where the sofa will go, not only the front door.
A step-by-step measuring checklist
- Step 1: Walk the route. Start at the entrance of the building and walk to the room. Write down every door, turn, staircase and elevator on the way.
- Step 2: Find the narrowest point. Measure the width and height of each opening. The smallest measurement is your limit for the whole route.
- Step 3: Measure diagonally. For stairwells and elevators, also measure the diagonal, because a long box can sometimes pass at an angle.
- Step 4: Check for obstacles. Look for banisters, low ceilings, light fixtures, sprinkler heads and anything that sticks out.
- Step 5: Compare with the box sizes. Use the tables below. A box is a rectangle, so its two smaller sides are what must pass through a narrow opening. Its longest side can go through lengthwise.
- Step 6: Confirm building rules. If you live in a condo or apartment, ask building management about elevator booking, move-in hours and any rules for deliveries.
The box sizes that make it fit
These are our box sizes and weights. The table shows, for each sofa collection, the longest module box (seats, backrests, arms, corners, chaises and ottomans) and the heaviest. Leg, hardware, cover and optional headrest boxes are not included.
The box sizes that make it fit
| Collection | Longest box | Box size (L x W x H) | Heaviest box |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atmosphere | Long ottoman (or storage long ottoman) | 41.3 x 21.3 x 17.5 inches (105 x 54 x 44.5 cm), 36.7 lb (16.7 kg); storage long ottoman, 47.7 lb (21.7 kg) | Storage corner seat, 48.8 lb (22.2 kg) |
| Cassini | Wedge backrest | 38.8 x 13.4 x 28.1 inches (98.5 x 34 x 71.5 cm), 32.6 lb (14.8 kg) | Right or left seat, 34.8 lb (15.8 kg) |
| Ciello | Original corner backrest | 38.4 x 14.6 x 26.0 inches (97.5 x 37 x 66 cm), 43.7 lb (19.8 kg) | Chaise extension, 59.5 lb (27 kg) |
| Ciello XL | Original corner backrest | 40.6 x 14.6 x 26.0 inches (103 x 37 x 66 cm), 45.4 lb (20.6 kg) | Storage ottoman, 59.1 lb (26.8 kg) |
| Gaia | Armless seat | 32.5 x 32.5 x 12.6 inches (82.5 x 82.5 x 32 cm), 39.9 lb (18.1 kg) | Corner backrest, 40.8 lb (18.5 kg) |
| Gaia XL | Corner backrest | 34.6 x 12.8 x 32.1 inches (88 x 32.5 x 81.5 cm), 45.2 lb (20.5 kg) | Armless seat, 48.1 lb (21.8 kg) |
| Neptune | Arm | 39.8 x 15.0 x 25.0 inches (101 x 38 x 63.5 cm), 51.9 lb (23.6 kg) | Sleeper seat, 54.1 lb (24.6 kg) |
| Orian | Arms | 41.7 x 12.6 x 22.4 inches (106 x 32 x 57 cm), 41.4 lb (18.8 kg) | Sleeper seat, 51.5 lb (23.4 kg) |
| Mistral (outdoor sofa) | Block seat cushions | 43.3 x 6.3 x 26.8 inches (110 x 16 x 68 cm), 13.6 lb (6.15 kg) | Corner seat, 32.2 lb (14.6 kg) |
Where several boxes share the longest length, we list one. For Ciello, Ciello XL, Gaia, Gaia XL and Atmosphere, other boxes have the same longest length with a different width, height or weight. For example, the Atmosphere storage long ottoman is also 105 cm long and weighs 47.7 lb (21.7 kg).
Each collection is made of several boxes, so most are smaller than the figures above. For a full view of your configuration, see our guide on which Cozey sofa configuration fits your living room.

If one spot on your route is tight
If your measurements show a tight spot, you have options before you order. Start by comparing the longest and widest boxes in the table with your narrowest opening. If a collection has a box that is too long or too wide, another collection or configuration may have smaller boxes.

- To plan which pieces you need, see our sectional sofa size guide.
- Ask your building management about elevator rules, and measure again if anything is unclear.
Our recommendation
- Tight stairs or a narrow stairwell: compare the box size column with the narrowest width and the landing depth. Choose a collection whose boxes are short enough to turn on your landing.
- Small elevator: check the cabin depth against the longest box in your configuration, and ask your building about booking the elevator.
- Narrow doorways: compare the two smaller sides of each box with your clear door opening, not just the sofa's finished width.
- Heavy boxes: if you will carry boxes up stairs yourself, note the weights in the table and plan for help.
- Not sure: measure first, then pick your collection. You can browse every collection on our sofa page.
