Short answer: Neptune is our modular sofa bed with firm, upright seating and built-in storage in every seat. Its three-seater is 89.8 inches (228 cm) wide and converts into a Full-size bed, with a sleeping surface of 56.7 x 75.6 inches (144 x 192 cm). You can order it as Full, Single or Storage Only, in nine colours across two fabrics.
A sofa bed has to work in two shapes: as a sofa every day and as a bed on the nights you host. This guide gives you the measurements for both, explains the three versions, and tells you honestly who Neptune is for and who might prefer something else.

How big is the Neptune sofa bed closed and open?
Neptune is built from seat modules that are each 25.2 inches (64 cm) wide, plus arms that are each 7.1 inches (18 cm) wide. The sofa is about 39 inches (99 cm) deep and 33.9 inches (86 cm) high, on legs of 2.4 inches (6 cm). The seat sits 16.9 inches (43 cm) off the floor and the armrests are 25.6 inches (65 cm) high.
The numbers that matter most for planning are the width as a sofa and the depth once the bed is open:
How big is the Neptune sofa bed closed and open?
| Layout | Width as a sofa | Depth with the bed open | Sleeping surface |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3-seater, three sleeper seats | 89.8 inches (228 cm) | 61.4 inches (156 cm) | Full: 56.7 x 75.6 inches (144 x 192 cm) |
| 2-seater plus two ottomans | 64.6 inches (164 cm) | 79.9 inches (203 cm) | Full, running front to back |
The two layouts use space differently. The three-seater sleeps across its own width, so it needs little room in front of the sofa. The two-seater with ottomans is narrower during the day but reaches much further into the room at night. Measure both the wall and the floor in front of it before you choose, and see how much space a pull-out sofa bed needs for a room-planning method. Bed sizes are not always standard, so our sofa bed sizes guide helps with sheets.
Is the Neptune sofa bed comfortable to sit on and sleep on?
Neptune is one of our firmer sofas. Its seat is 22.4 inches (57 cm) deep, and its backrest reaches 33.9 inches (86 cm), which supports an upright sitting position. Cushions are layered foam, so they do not sink in deeply. For leaning back, you can add one or two headrest extensions.
The sleeping surface uses about five inches of layered foam and feels firm. The seats extend one at a time, so you can open a single sleeper seat as a lounging spot while the others stay upright. For overnight guests, our Sleep Kit adds a mattress topper that cushions and smooths the sleeping surface, along with sheets, pillows and a comforter. Lumbar pillows come with the sofa.
Each seat module is designed to support up to 350 lb (159 kg). Our assembly guide notes one user on a single bed and two users on a double bed. For a wider comparison of seat feel across our sofas, read our guides to sofa seat depth and height and whether our sofa beds are comfortable.
What do Full, Single and Storage Only mean?
These are the three versions you choose on the Neptune page. They differ in how many seats extend into a bed:
- Full: a mix of extending sleeper seats and storage seats that makes a Full-size sleeping area. The typical layout is a straight three-seater.
- Single: one sleeper seat extends when needed, and the rest are storage seats. With an ottoman it makes a narrow bed for one person.
- Storage Only: every seat has built-in storage and none of them extends. It is a regular modular sofa with hidden storage, so choose it when you do not need a bed.
In Full and Single versions, each sleeper seat has a storage compartment of about 59 x 58 x 14 cm (23.2 x 22.8 x 5.5 inches), enough for bedding and pillows. Storage seats and the attachable ottoman also have storage. All versions are modular, so you can add seats, corners, chaise extensions or ottomans later. Our guide to how many modules you need helps you plan, and sofa beds with storage covers where bedding goes.
Which fabrics and colours does Neptune come in?
Neptune comes in two fabrics, both 100% polyester with removable cushion and backrest covers that are machine washable:
Which fabrics and colours does Neptune come in?
| Fabric | Colours | Martindale rub count | Care |
|---|---|---|---|
| Performance Fabric | Slate, Leaf, Mocha, Latte, Fog | 48,000 | Machine wash cold, gentle cycle, air dry |
| Aquaforte | Sesame, Snowdrift, Basalt, Limestone | 78,000 | Wipe spills with a damp cloth; machine wash cold, gentle cycle, air dry for deeper cleans |
Aquaforte is water-repellent and stain-resistant, which suits a sofa that guests use. In our own assessment, Performance Fabric is a moderate choice for pets, so read our guide to the most durable sofa fabric for pets if claws are a concern. For more help matching a colour to your room, see how to choose a sofa colour, and you can order free swatches.
Only the seat and back cushion covers are removable. Arms and bases have fixed upholstery, so you cannot change the whole sofa's colour with replacement covers. Our guide to cleaning a sleeper sofa covers spills and moving parts.
Neptune or Orian: which Cozey sofa bed is right for you?
Orian is our other firm-seat sofa bed, and the two suit different rooms and sleepers. For a full side-by-side that also includes our Atmosphere sleeper, read Neptune vs. Orian vs. Atmosphere Sleeper. In short, Neptune has a taller, more upright back and storage in every seat, while Orian makes a Queen bed from just two sleeper seats. Choose Neptune for upright seating and bedding storage inside the sofa, and Orian for a compact Queen bed.
Who is Neptune for, and who is it not for?
Neptune suits you if you:
- prefer firm, upright seating, with a high back for reading or watching TV
- want bedding stored inside the sofa rather than in a closet
- have a wide wall but limited depth, where the three-seater's smaller open depth helps
- want a sleeper that raises you off the floor, on legs
Neptune may not suit you if you:
- want a deep, soft, sink-in seat, where Orian or a different sofa will feel better
- need a Queen bed in a compact footprint
- want to swap covers across the whole sofa
Assembly is by an adult and takes about 20 minutes per module. See how long it takes to assemble a Cozey sofa.
Our recommendation
- Guest room or studio with a wide wall: the Full three-seater, with the Sleep Kit stored inside.
- Living room that sleeps one guest occasionally: a Single version with an ottoman.
- No overnight guests, but you want storage: Storage Only.
- Compact room needing a Queen bed: Orian.
- Soft, relaxed lounging seat: Orian, or our Atmosphere sofa.
If you are not sure, start by measuring the wall and the open depth, then choose a version. Our sofa beds page shows each configuration, and our warranty is described on the warranty page. For tight rooms, our guide to compact sleeper sofas helps you compare sizes.
