But not every Cozey sleeper feels the same.
Neptune offers firmer seating, a taller backrest and built-in storage, making it especially practical for customers who want an upright sofa and a guest bed.
Orian combines a firm sleeping surface with deeper seating and softer back pillows. Its compact two-seater converts into a queen-size bed, making it particularly appealing for smaller homes.
Atmosphere Sleeper offers a more relaxed, medium-firm seating experience and a softer sleeping surface with additional sink-in cushioning. It also features fully removable, machine-washable covers across the sofa.
At Cozey, we believe a sleeper sofa shouldn't force you to compromise between comfort, design, practicality and space. It should feel like a sofa you genuinely want to sit on every day—and a bed your guests actually want to sleep in.
Here's how our three sleeper collections compare, including their construction, comfort, dimensions, conversion mechanisms and long-term durability.

Which Cozey Sofa Bed Is the Most Comfortable?
Comfort is personal. Some people prefer a firmer mattress-like feel, while others enjoy a softer surface that lets them sink into the cushioning.
That's why we design different sleeping experiences.
| Feature | Neptune | Orian | Atmosphere Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleeping feel | Firm and supportive | Firm, very similar to Neptune | Softer, more sink-in |
| Foam thickness | Approximately 5 inches | Approximately 5 inches | Approximately 8 inches |
| Everyday seat feel | Firmest and most upright | Firm seat, softer back pillows | Medium-firm and balanced |
| Seat depth | Shallowest of the three | Deep | Deep |
| Backrest | Tall, optional headrests | Lower, with soft back pillows | Lower, with configurable backrests |
| Sleeping height | Elevated on folding legs | Elevated on folding legs | Floor-level |
| Conversion time | Approximately 20 seconds per seat | Approximately 20 seconds per seat | Approximately 10 seconds per seat |
| Storage | Every seat | Optional dedicated storage modules | No storage in sleeper configuration |
| Fully removable upholstery | No, cushions only | No, cushions only | Yes |
| Aesthetic | More classic | Modern, relaxed | Modern, contemporary |
All three collections have strengths. The best choice depends on how you like to sit, how you like to sleep and how you plan to use your space.
What Makes Cozey Sofa Beds Comfortable for Sleeping?
One of the biggest challenges in designing a sofa bed is that the same furniture needs to work in two different positions.
A sofa needs to support the body while sitting. A bed needs to provide a sufficiently consistent and comfortable surface for lying down.
At our Montreal design centre and R&D lab, we develop and test foam construction, cushioning, seat angles, backrest geometry and conversion mechanisms with both uses in mind.
Neptune and Orian: Five Inches of Supportive Foam
Neptune and Orian use similar layered-foam constructions, with approximately five inches of foam forming their sleeping surfaces.
Although they feel noticeably different as sofas, their sleeping comfort is very similar.
Both provide a relatively firm, supportive sleeping experience.
Neptune's firmer backrest and shallower seat make it more suitable for upright sitting during the day.
Orian has a deeper seat and loose, fiber-filled back pillows, creating a more relaxed everyday seating experience.
But once converted into beds, their similar foam construction means the difference in sleeping firmness becomes much less pronounced.
Atmosphere Sleeper: Eight Inches of Softer Foam
Atmosphere Sleeper uses approximately eight inches of foam, creating a thicker, softer sleeping surface.
Its construction has more foam cushioning and less influence from the underlying frame and springs, resulting in a more pronounced sink-in feeling.
This is particularly appealing to people who prefer a plush sleeping surface.
However, more foam doesn't automatically mean better sleep. Customers who prefer firmer support may be more comfortable on Neptune or Orian.
The right choice depends on personal preference.
Can You Feel the Gaps Between Cozey Sofa Bed Cushions?
This is one of the questions we hear about modular sleeper sofas.
Because Cozey furniture is built from individual modules, customers sometimes worry they'll feel the gaps where seats, backrests and modules meet.
We design those intersections specifically to minimize this issue.
Rather than leaving hard wooden frame edges exposed at the joins, we incorporate foam cushioning to help create a more consistent sleeping surface.
We also develop the foam layers so the unfolded seat and back sections offer a relatively uniform sleeping feel from head to toe.
As a result, the gaps between modules should be barely noticeable for most sleepers.
That doesn't mean every person will find the seams completely imperceptible. Some sleepers are more sensitive to changes in surface texture or firmness.
For customers who want an even more continuous sleeping surface, we recommend our Cozey Sleep Kit.
Does the Cozey Sleep Kit Make Sofa Beds More Comfortable?
Yes. We designed the Sleep Kit to do more than simply provide sheets that fit.
Its mattress protector serves two important purposes:
- It covers and conceals the gaps between modular sleeping sections, making the sleeping surface feel more continuous.
- It adds an additional layer of cushioning, which can be particularly useful for customers who find Neptune or Orian slightly firm.
The kit is designed around the dimensions of the compatible Cozey sleeping configuration.
It includes:
- A fitted mattress protector
- A fitted sheet
- A flat sheet
- Two pillows
- Two pillowcases
- A comforter
The Sleep Kit is optional, but we recommend it for customers who want to maximize sleeping comfort and simplify guest preparation.
It's particularly useful for Atmosphere Sleeper because its sleeping dimensions vary by configuration and don't necessarily match conventional mattress sizes.
The protector adds comfort, but it shouldn't be confused with a thick replacement mattress or a conventional mattress topper.
Are Cozey Sofa Beds Comfortable for Everyday Sitting?
Summary: Neptune offers the firmest, most upright seating; Orian pairs a firm seat with softer back pillows; Atmosphere Sleeper offers medium-firm, relaxed lounging.
A sleeper sofa shouldn't only be comfortable when converted into a bed.
For most customers, it will spend considerably more time functioning as a regular sofa.
That's why we've engineered each sleeper collection around a different everyday seating experience.
Neptune: Firm, Upright and Supportive
Neptune is our firmest sleeper sofa.
Its seat is the shallowest of our three sleeper collections, although it's still relatively deep compared with many conventional sofas.
Its taller backrest provides a more upright seating position.
Customers can also add headrest modules for additional upper-back and neck support.
To make everyday sitting more comfortable, we include a complimentary lumbar pillow with every Neptune seat.
Neptune is particularly suitable for people who enjoy structured sitting, reading or spending extended periods on the sofa without sinking deeply into the cushioning.
Its design is also more classic than Orian or Atmosphere.
Orian: Firm Seating With Softer Back Pillows
Orian offers a different combination.
Its seat is firm, similar to Neptune, but its loose, fiber-filled back pillows make the backrest considerably softer.
The seating is also deeper and lower than Neptune.
This creates a more relaxed everyday experience while maintaining a supportive foam seat.
Orian has a modern, low-profile aesthetic that makes it especially appealing for contemporary living spaces.
The trade-off is that it doesn't offer Neptune's tall backrest or optional headrest support.
Atmosphere Sleeper: Balanced Comfort and Relaxed Lounging
Atmosphere Sleeper retains the familiar seating comfort of the regular Atmosphere collection.
We design its construction so customers can enjoy a consistent medium-firm seating experience across regular and sleeper modules.
Its deep seating provides room to lounge, while its layered-foam construction offers a balance between softness and support.
Atmosphere also has a higher seating position than Orian, although both collections have relatively low-profile backrests.
For customers who want one sofa for structured sitting, relaxed lounging and occasional sleeping, Atmosphere is an especially versatile choice.
How Easy Is It to Convert a Cozey Sofa Into a Bed?
Summary: All three collections convert without tools by one person, in approximately 20 seconds per seat for Neptune and Orian and approximately 10 seconds per seat for Atmosphere Sleeper.
Ease of conversion is one of the biggest advantages of our sleeper systems.
All three collections are designed to be converted by one person, without tools.
The mechanisms differ by collection, but each is designed to make switching between sitting and sleeping straightforward.
How Does Neptune Convert Into a Bed?
With Neptune, the process is simple:
- Lift and pull the seat forward.
- The support legs automatically unfold underneath.
- Pull the backrest forward to complete the sleeping surface.
The process takes approximately 20 seconds per seat.
Every Neptune seat also includes built-in storage, providing space for bedding such as sheets, pillows and blankets.
This means customers can keep their guest bedding inside the sofa rather than needing a separate closet or storage cabinet.
A three-seater converts into a full-size bed in an east–west sleeping orientation.
Customers can also create a full-size sleeping surface using two seats and two storage ottomans, allowing a north–south sleeping orientation.
How Does Orian Convert Into a Bed?
Orian uses a fabric lever positioned behind the seat.
To convert it:
- Pull the fabric lever to unfold the sleeper seat.
- The support legs deploy automatically.
- Pull the backrest forward to complete the sleeping surface.
The conversion takes approximately 20 seconds per seat.
A single Orian sleeper seat creates a single-size sleeping surface.
Two sleeper seats create a queen-size bed.
Unlike Neptune, Orian sleeper seats don't contain storage.
However, customers can add dedicated storage seats or ottomans if they need space for bedding.
How Does Atmosphere Sleeper Convert Into a Bed?
Atmosphere Sleeper uses a different approach.
Its sleeper sections are secured using Velcro and unfold onto the floor.
Rather than deploying elevated legs, the unfolded sleeping sections rest directly on the floor.
The process takes approximately 10 seconds per seat, making Atmosphere the quickest of our three sleeper systems to convert.
Depending on the desired configuration, customers can create sleeping surfaces using:
- One sleeper seat and an ottoman for one person.
- Two sleeper seats and an ottoman for one or two people.
- Three sleeper seats for one or two people.
Atmosphere's sleeping dimensions depend on the selected modules and don't always correspond to standard mattress sizes.
The matching Sleep Kit helps ensure customers have bedding that fits their configuration.
Which Cozey Sofa Bed Is Best for Small Apartments?
Summary: Orian is often our first recommendation for small spaces because its approximately 72.75-inch-wide two-seater converts into a queen-size bed without separate ottomans.
Sleeper sofas are especially useful in smaller homes because they combine two functions within one piece of furniture.
However, it's important to consider both the sofa's daytime footprint and the space it requires when converted into a bed.
Here's how representative Cozey sleeper configurations compare.
| Collection and configuration | Sofa width | Sleeping arrangement |
|---|---|---|
| Orian one-seater | 42" | Single-size bed |
| Orian two-seater | 72.75" | Queen-size bed |
| Neptune one-seater | 39.4" | Single-person setup with ottoman |
| Neptune two-seater | 64.6" | Full-size setup with ottomans |
| Neptune three-seater | 89.8" | Full-size bed |
| Atmosphere one-seater, armless | 29.5" | Single-person setup with ottoman |
| Atmosphere two-seater, rounded arms | 77.25" | Sleeping setup with ottoman |
| Atmosphere three-seater, rounded arms | 106.75" | Sleeping surface for one or two |
| Atmosphere three-seater, alternative arms | 110.6" | Sleeping surface for one or two |
Dimensions reflect representative sofa configurations. The room must also accommodate the full unfolded sleeping footprint and circulation space. Verify current product dimensions and module requirements before ordering.

Orian: Our First Recommendation for Compact Queen Sleeping
If your priority is maximizing sleeping space within a smaller living room, Orian is often our first recommendation.
Its two-seater measures approximately 72.75 inches wide yet converts into a queen-size bed without requiring separate ottomans.
This makes it particularly practical for apartments, multipurpose rooms and spaces where every inch matters.
Neptune: Compact Options With Built-In Storage
Neptune provides a different advantage.
A two-seater is approximately 64.6 inches wide, but achieving a full-size sleeping surface requires two additional ottomans.
Those ottomans occupy additional floor space when the bed is extended.
However, Neptune's built-in seat storage makes it particularly useful for homes with limited closet space.
Customers can keep bedding directly inside the sofa and prepare a guest bed without searching for sheets and pillows elsewhere.
Atmosphere: Flexible, but Often Larger
Atmosphere offers several compact individual modules, including an armless one-seater measuring approximately 29.5 inches wide.
However, smaller sleeper configurations require ottomans, and larger configurations can occupy substantially more space than Orian.
Its biggest strengths are its flexible modular layouts, soft sleeping feel and relaxed everyday comfort.
Can Two Adults Sleep Comfortably on a Cozey Sofa Bed?
Yes. Our supported two-person sleeper configurations are designed to provide both sufficient sleeping space and a sturdy foundation.
Neptune offers a full-size sleeping surface in its appropriate configurations.
Orian offers a queen-size bed using two sleeper seats.
Atmosphere Sleeper offers several configurations large enough to comfortably accommodate two adults.
Our designs incorporate substantial foam cushioning and supporting structures developed for regular sitting and sleeping use.
For couples who prefer additional personal space, Orian's queen-size configuration may be particularly attractive.
A full-size Neptune bed remains a practical solution for many couples and overnight guests, although it provides less width than a queen.
Does Sleeping Height Matter?
Neptune and Orian use automatically unfolding legs to create an elevated sleeping surface.
Atmosphere Sleeper unfolds directly onto the floor.
That difference doesn't inherently determine how comfortable the foam feels throughout the night.
However, it can affect how easy it is to get in and out of bed.
Customers who prefer a more conventional bed height—particularly older guests or people who find it difficult to get up from a low surface—may prefer Neptune or Orian.
Atmosphere is better suited to customers who enjoy lower sleeping arrangements and prioritize softer foam cushioning.
Are Cozey Sofa Bed Covers Machine-Washable?
Yes. All three Cozey sleeper collections offer removable, machine-washable seat and back cushion covers.
This is especially useful for furniture that serves as both everyday seating and a place for overnight guests.
There is, however, an important distinction between the collections.
Atmosphere Sleeper: Fully Removable Upholstery
Atmosphere Sleeper has fully removable covers across its upholstered components, including seats, backs, arms and corners.
Customers can remove the covers for washing or purchase compatible replacement covers to change the sofa's colour entirely.
That gives Atmosphere an additional long-term advantage: customers can refresh the appearance of their sofa without replacing the furniture itself.
Neptune and Orian: Removable Cushion Covers
Neptune and Orian have removable, washable seat and backrest covers.
However, their arm and base upholstery is fixed.
Customers can wash the cushion covers but cannot replace every upholstered cover to completely change the sofa's colour.
For removable Cozey covers, we recommend machine-washing cold with a mild, fragrance-free detergent, laying flat to air-dry and reinstalling only when completely dry.
Never tumble-dry the covers.
Always follow the care instructions for the specific fabric and component.
Can You Sleep on a Cozey Sofa Bed Every Night?
Our sleeper sofas are designed for frequent use and can comfortably accommodate guests for several nights, weeks or months.
For temporary sleeping arrangements lasting several months—and potentially up to approximately one year, depending on individual comfort and support needs—all three collections can be practical options.
However, for someone planning to sleep in the same bed every night for several years, we recommend a dedicated mattress.
That distinction is about sleeping support, not the durability of the furniture.
A conventional 10- or 12-inch mattress offers different thickness and support characteristics from a sofa-bed sleeping surface.
Our sleeper systems are designed to provide an excellent combination of everyday seating and convenient sleeping, but they aren't intended to replace every benefit of a dedicated mattress for every sleeper.
How Durable Are Cozey Sleeper Sofas?
We engineer our sleeper sofas for repeated use over many years.
Neptune, Orian and Atmosphere Sleeper use layered-foam seat constructions rather than loose fiber-filled seat cushions.
This means they don't require the regular fluffing associated with some of our softer sofa collections.
Depending on usage and conditions, we expect layered-foam cushioning to provide approximately seven to ten years of comfortable use.
Are the Conversion Mechanisms Durable?
Yes. Our sleeper mechanisms undergo cycle testing involving thousands of opening-and-closing operations to simulate years of use.
They are designed and tested with a 10-plus-year lifespan in mind.
This doesn't mean the mechanisms are guaranteed never to need repair, but regular conversion is part of their intended use.
All three sleeper collections also carry Cozey's standard five-year limited warranty, including eligible manufacturing defects affecting the conversion mechanisms, subject to the applicable warranty terms.
We continue refining mechanism durability, ease of conversion and cushion firmness based on customer feedback.

Our Philosophy: A Great Sofa Bed Shouldn't Feel Like a Compromise
At Cozey, we believe the best sleeper sofa isn't simply the one that folds into the largest bed.
It should be comfortable to sit on every day, pleasant to sleep on when needed, easy to convert, thoughtfully designed and practical to maintain.
That's why we've developed three different sleeper experiences.
Neptune combines supportive seating, straightforward conversion and integrated storage.
Orian offers a modern design, soft back pillows and a queen-size bed within a surprisingly compact sofa footprint.
Atmosphere Sleeper brings softer sleeping comfort, flexible configurations and fully removable upholstery.
None is universally the best choice for every customer.
But all three reflect the same philosophy: bringing together the comfort, design, functionality and convenience customers need, rather than asking them to sacrifice one to get another.
If you're unsure which is best for your space, our Cozey design specialists can help you compare configurations, sleeping dimensions, firmness and practical features.
Because a great sofa bed should feel just as thoughtfully designed when you're relaxing on it as when you're sleeping on it.
