Which blue sofa colours we offer, the fabric and Martindale count behind each one, which collections and sofa beds they come on, and how to choose between them.

A blue Cozey sofa

Short answer: Choose Aqua if the sofa will be used hard each day. It is Aquaforte Velvet, the fabric with our highest Martindale count (more than 200,000), and our own assessment rates it Excellent for pets. Choose Harbor Blue for a cool, deep blue on a Gaia or Atmosphere, Night Sky if you want a blue Ciello, and Cerulean if you want a blue sofa bed on an Orian or an Atmosphere Sleeper. Our Neptune sofa bed does not come in blue.

Four blues are live on our site, and each comes in a different fabric, so the colour you like also decides the rub count, the care and the sofas you can buy it on. The sections below put that in one place.

Which blue sofa colours do we offer?

We offer four blues. The table shows the fabric, the Martindale rub count and where each one is available. The same blues, fabrics and collections are shown on our product pages in each market we serve.

Martindale counts measure abrasion from sitting, not claws or spills, so read them as one signal among several. Our sofa fabric types guide explains how the fabrics differ.

Which blue sofas come as sofa beds?

Two of our three sofa beds come in blue, and the choice of blue is different on each.

  • Orian: available in Aqua and Cerulean. The seat and back cushion covers come off for washing, while the arm and base covers are fixed. The open bed reaches 80 inches (202.5 cm) from the back of the sofa.
  • Atmosphere Sleeper: available in Aqua, Cerulean and Harbor Blue. Its covers are removable across the seats, arms, backrests and base. A two-seater with a sleeper ottoman opens to about 98 inches (249 cm) from the back of the sofa.
  • Neptune: no blue. Neptune is not offered in Aquaforte Velvet, and none of its colours is one of the four blues here.

If the bed will be used most nights, our guide to durable fabrics for a sleeper sofa compares the rub counts, and our Neptune, Orian and Atmosphere Sleeper comparison covers the rest of the differences.

What is each blue like to live with?

Each blue has its own fabric, so the care is not identical.

  • Aqua (Aquaforte Velvet, more than 200,000): wipe spills promptly with a damp cloth, and for deeper cleans machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and air dry. Our own assessment rates Aquaforte Velvet Excellent for pets, which is why it is the blue we would look at first for a busy household. Our guide to the most durable sofa fabric for pets gives the full comparison.
  • Night Sky (Chenille Basketweave, 55,000): offered on Ciello only. It is machine washable: wash cold on a gentle cycle, air dry, and avoid wringing, bleach and high temperatures.
  • Harbor Blue (Performance Chenille, 48,000): a cool, deep blue, offered on Gaia and Atmosphere. It is machine washable: wash cold on a gentle cycle, air dry, and avoid bleach and high heat.
  • Cerulean (Performance Textured Weave, 54,000): offered on Atmosphere and Orian. It is machine washable: wash cold on a gentle cycle, air dry, and avoid bleach and high heat.

For Night Sky, Harbor Blue and Cerulean we state the rub count and the washing instructions only, and we do not publish a pet rating. Our guide to spot cleaning a sofa helps with everyday marks on any of them.

Which blue suits a warm or cool room?

Our own sofa colour guide says blues suit cool rooms, or work as a bolder statement against neutral walls. Harbor Blue is the one we describe as a cool, deep blue, and we have not published an undertone description for the others, so judge Aqua, Night Sky and Cerulean on a swatch in your own light.

As general advice, check the undertone of the floor and walls first. Warm floors usually pair with warm sofa shades and cool floors with cool shades, but contrast works too when it looks intentional. A bright room can handle deeper or cooler shades, while a dim room usually feels better with a lighter or warmer colour. Our guide to choosing a sofa colour works through light, floors and walls in more detail.

For wood, our neutral palette guide suggests oak with cool shades, because the lighter wood keeps the room open, and a single deeper blue such as Harbor Blue only if you want a note of contrast. Our Naos chair is offered in Aqua with an oak frame, which gives you one ready-made pairing.

Which blue should you pick? Questions to ask yourself

Work through these five questions, in this order.

  • Who uses the sofa? Kids or pets point to Aqua first.
  • Do you need a guest bed? Orian (Aqua or Cerulean) or Atmosphere Sleeper (Aqua, Cerulean or Harbor Blue).
  • Which collection do you want? Night Sky comes on Ciello only, and Harbor Blue comes on Gaia and Atmosphere only.
  • How cool is your room? Check Harbor Blue first for a deep, cool blue.
  • Have you seen it in your light? Order a free swatch. Our swatches page delivers within 3 business days.

Our recommendation

Pick by how the sofa will be used.

  • Busy home with kids or pets: Aqua in Aquaforte Velvet, on Atmosphere, Ciello, Gaia or Cassini.
  • Blue guest bed: Aqua or Cerulean on Orian, or Aqua, Cerulean or Harbor Blue on Atmosphere Sleeper.
  • Deep, cool blue on a deep-seat sofa: Harbor Blue on Gaia or Atmosphere.
  • Blue Ciello: Night Sky.

In each case, order the swatch first and check it beside your floor and walls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start with your household and your light, then check the fabric. If kids or pets use the sofa every day, we would look first at Aqua, because it is Aquaforte Velvet with a Martindale count of more than 200,000, and our own assessment rates that fabric Excellent for pets. If you want a cool, deep blue, look at Harbor Blue. If you want a blue Ciello, choose Night Sky. Whatever you pick, order a free swatch and check it against your floor and walls at different times of day before you decide.

Our blues suit cool rooms, or act as a bolder statement against neutral walls. Harbor Blue is our cool, deep blue, available on Gaia and Atmosphere. Aqua is available on Atmosphere, Ciello, Gaia, Cassini and the Orian sofa bed. Cerulean is available on Atmosphere and Orian, and Night Sky on Ciello. We do not publish an undertone for Aqua, Night Sky or Cerulean, so judge them on a swatch. Warm floors usually pair with warm shades and cool floors with cool shades, though deliberate contrast also works.

Aqua is the blue we would look at first. It is Aquaforte Velvet, with a Martindale count of more than 200,000, and our own assessment rates it Excellent for pets. You can wipe spills promptly with a damp cloth and machine wash the covers cold on a gentle cycle for deeper cleans. Aqua comes on Atmosphere, Ciello, Gaia and Cassini, and on the Orian and Atmosphere Sleeper sofa beds. For Night Sky, Harbor Blue and Cerulean we state the rub count and washing instructions only, and we do not publish a pet rating.

We offer two blue sofa beds. Our Orian comes in Aqua and Cerulean, and our Atmosphere Sleeper, a style of the Atmosphere sofa, comes in Aqua, Cerulean and Harbor Blue. Neptune has no blue. On Orian, the seat and back cushion covers are removable, while the arm and base covers are fixed. On Atmosphere, the covers are removable across the seats, arms, backrests and base. If guests will sleep on it most nights, Aqua has the highest Martindale count of the blues, at more than 200,000.

Yes, all four blues are machine washable. Aqua (Aquaforte Velvet): wipe spills promptly with a damp cloth, and for deeper cleans machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and air dry. Night Sky (Chenille Basketweave): wash cold on a gentle cycle, air dry, and avoid wringing, bleach and high temperatures. Harbor Blue (Performance Chenille) and Cerulean (Performance Textured Weave): machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, air dry, and avoid bleach and high heat. On Orian, only the seat and back cushion covers come off, so spot clean the fixed arm and base covers.

By Martindale count, Aqua is the most durable of our blues. Aquaforte Velvet reaches more than 200,000 rubs, the highest count we publish. Night Sky follows at 55,000 (Chenille Basketweave), then Cerulean at 54,000 (Performance Textured Weave), then Harbor Blue at 48,000 (Performance Chenille). A Martindale count measures abrasion from sitting, so it says nothing about claws or spills, and it is one signal among several. Our guides to sofa fabric types and to what performance fabric is explain how the fabrics differ in daily use.

Yes. We offer free fabric swatches, delivered within 3 business days. Choose the blues you are considering on our swatches page, then look at them at home next to your floor, your walls and your other furniture, in morning, evening and lamp light. A screen and a room both change how a colour looks, so a swatch is the easiest way to avoid a surprise. Order the blues together so you can compare them side by side, and live with them for a few days.
