Inside the Design of Cozey Washable Rugs

A rug can change the feeling of a room without changing anything else.

It can make a living room feel warmer, give a bedroom a softer look, or bring a little personality to a space that feels unfinished. Sometimes, the right rug is what makes all the furniture around it suddenly feel like it belongs together.

That's what makes designing rugs so interesting to us.

At Cozey, every washable rug pattern is developed by our in-house design team and created exclusively for our collection. And there's a personal detail behind the designs: we name each one after a Cozey employee.

It's our way of making something designed for your home feel a little closer to ours.

A rug should feel like part of your home

When we think about a rug, we don't see it as an accessory added at the end of decorating a room.

It's often one of the largest visual elements in the space. It sits beneath the sofa, coffee table, dining table, or bed. It can connect different materials and colours, make furniture feel grounded, and influence the overall atmosphere of the room.

A patterned rug can bring life to simple furniture. A quieter design can create a sense of calm. Even a subtle change in colour can make the same space feel warmer or cooler.

That's why we think rugs deserve as much design attention as the furniture around them.

Our collection includes both traditional-inspired and contemporary patterns, designed to work with different kinds of homes.

Some designs feel familiar and timeless. Others bring a more graphic or modern touch. What connects them is our preference for pieces that are easy to live with, rather than designs that only look good in a carefully styled photograph.

We want you to love your rug on an ordinary Tuesday, not just when the room is perfectly tidy.

Every pattern is a Cozey original

One of the details we're especially proud of is that our washable rug designs are exclusive to Cozey.

They're developed by our in-house team rather than selected as ready-made patterns to be sold under different names.

That gives the collection its own identity.

We're able to bring our perspective on colour, proportion, and contemporary living into the designs while keeping them connected to the wider Cozey furniture collection.

A rug doesn't necessarily need to match your sofa perfectly. In fact, we often prefer a little contrast.

A soft, neutral sofa can look beautiful over a rug with subtle colour variations or a traditional motif. A bolder sofa can feel more balanced with a quieter rug. Different materials can work together when the overall room has a sense of harmony.

What matters is that the design feels intentional.

We also believe original design should be accessible. Creating patterns in-house is one way we can offer something distinctive without making beautiful interiors feel out of reach.

Why our rugs have people's names

If you've explored our rug collection, you may have noticed the names.

They're not random. Each design is named after a Cozey employee.

We like that a product made for someone's home carries a small connection to the people behind our brand.

Our team brings Cozey to life every day, from design and product development to the many details involved in creating a good customer experience. Naming our rugs after team members is a simple way to recognize those people.

It also gives every design a little more character.

A rug might become part of your first apartment, the room where your kids play, or the home you move into years from now. We like the idea that something so personal to your space has a personal story on our side, too.

Of course, you don't need to know any of that to enjoy the rug. We just think it's a nice detail.

A textured appearance without a thick, raised pile

Our washable rugs use digitally printed patterns on soft polyester chenille.

Digital printing allows us to create detailed designs, layered-looking colours, and subtle visual variations that give the rugs depth and character.

Some patterns have the appearance of a traditional woven rug. Others feel cleaner and more contemporary.

But there's an important distinction: the variations you see in the design aren't separate raised areas of fabric.

The rug's physical texture is consistent across the collection.

We've enhanced that chenille texture to give the fabric a richer, more elevated appearance and a pleasant feel underfoot. The printed pattern adds visual interest without requiring a thick, uneven pile.

We like this combination for everyday homes. You get the character of a detailed rug design with a surface that's easier to vacuum and practical to remove for washing.

It's also one of the reasons we can offer so many different patterns while maintaining the same comfortable construction across the collection.

Why texture matters as much as colour

Colour is often the first thing you notice when shopping for a rug. Texture is what you notice once you start living with it.

A room filled with smooth surfaces—wood floors, painted walls, glass, or sleek furniture—can benefit from a fabric that introduces softness.

Chenille has a gentle, inviting character that helps a room feel less formal.

Our washable rug layer is soft to the touch, while the cushioned pad underneath makes it more comfortable to walk across.

We think the relationship between texture and design is what gives a rug its character.

A traditional-inspired print on a very smooth fabric might feel flat. The same visual idea on a soft, textured chenille surface feels warmer and more inviting.

That doesn't make the pattern physically woven or raised. It simply means the material and printed design work together to create a richer appearance.

It's a detail that can be difficult to appreciate in a small product image, but it becomes much more apparent once the rug is in a room.

Finding the right design for your space

You don't need to be an interior designer to choose a rug you love. A few questions can make the process easier.

Do you want the rug to stand out or blend in?

If the room already has strong colours, interesting furniture, or lots of artwork, a quieter pattern can create balance.

If most of your furniture is neutral, a more expressive rug can add personality without requiring you to change larger pieces.

How much pattern is already in the room?

A detailed rug can work beautifully with simple upholstery. If you already have patterned curtains, pillows, or other textiles, consider how those elements will sit together.

You don't need everything to match. You just want the room to feel considered.

What colours are you drawn to?

Think about the colours you enjoy living with, not just the ones you're seeing most often online.

Warm neutrals, soft greys, gentle blues, earthy tones, and richer accent colours can all create very different moods.

A rug covers enough floor space that its colours will influence the way the entire room feels.

What will the rug look like in your lighting?

This one matters more than people expect.

Colours can appear different depending on the time of day, your light bulbs, your flooring, and your screen.

Because we don't currently offer physical rug swatches, we've included lighting visualizations on our product pages to help you see how a rug may appear in different conditions.

We recommend looking through those previews before making your choice.

They won't reproduce every detail of your home, but they offer a more useful starting point than a single studio photograph.

Beautiful design should be easy to live with

A rug can be beautiful and practical at the same time.

We don't believe you should have to choose between a design you really love and one that fits your lifestyle.

That's why our exclusive patterns are offered as washable rugs. They bring colour, softness, and personality into a room while allowing the fabric layer to be removed and cleaned.

The same design is available across our five rug sizes, subject to availability, so you can choose the scale that works for your space.

And because the cushioned pad comes included, you don't need to make a separate purchase to finish the setup.

We think those practical details should support the design rather than distract from it.

A great rug becomes part of the room. You enjoy how it looks, appreciate how it feels, and don't spend much time thinking about the work behind it.

A little piece of Cozey, made for your home

Every Cozey washable rug starts with an original design from our team. Every pattern has its own personality, and every name has a connection to someone at Cozey.

From there, the important thing is what the rug becomes in your home.

Maybe it's where your dog takes an afternoon nap. Maybe it brings your first living room together. Maybe it adds just the right colour to a room you've been trying to finish.

Whatever the setting, our goal is simple: create rugs that make your space feel more like yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who designs Cozey's washable rug patterns?

Every washable rug pattern is developed by Cozey's in-house design team and created exclusively for the Cozey collection.

Why are Cozey rugs named after people?

Each design is named after a Cozey employee, as a simple way to recognize the people behind the brand and give each rug a bit more character.

Are the patterns woven or printed?

The patterns are digitally printed onto soft polyester chenille. The printing gives the designs visual depth, but the physical texture of the fabric is consistent across the collection, so the details are not raised or woven at different pile heights.

Can I order rug swatches to check the colour?

Cozey doesn't currently offer physical rug swatches. The product pages include lighting visualizations that show how a rug may look in different conditions, and we recommend reviewing those before you choose.

What sizes are Cozey washable rug designs available in?

The same design is available across five rug sizes, subject to availability, and the cushioned pad is included so you don't need a separate purchase to finish the setup.
