Frequently asked questions
Who is Gaia best for, compared with a lower-back cloud sofa?
Gaia is a soft, cloud-style sofa for people who want an enveloping cushion with more upright back support than Ciello Original. Its taller backrest, slimmer arms and French-seam detailing create a distinctive, more tailored silhouette. Like Ciello, Gaia combines loose synthetic fibre with a supportive D35 foam core and needs regular cushion fluffing. It offers fully removable, washable upholstery and an optional storage ottoman. Customers wanting very firm, fixed-foam seating may prefer Atmosphere instead.
How does Gaia achieve cloud-like softness while supporting your back?
Gaia uses soft loose synthetic fibre around a D35 high-density foam core, supported by the seat base. The soft outer fill creates a sink-in feel, while the foam provides underlying support; the taller backrest adds upper-back support compared with Ciello Original. Cozey added approximately 2 in (5 cm) of foam near the base edges in 2026 to soften hard-feeling transitions. Loose cushions still benefit from weekly or biweekly fluffing. Gaia is not a fixed-foam, maintenance-free sofa.
Gaia vs Ciello vs Atmosphere: which is best for back support and soft seating?
Choose Gaia if you want soft cloud cushions with a noticeably taller backrest and French-seam styling. Gaia’s back is about 6 in higher than Ciello Original, while both use a similar foam-and-synthetic-fibre approach. Choose Ciello for its Original or High Angled backs and a dedicated chaise module. Choose Atmosphere for a more structured, medium-firm seat, less fluffing and built-in Storage or Sleeper seat options. Gaia and Ciello offer hidden storage through selected ottomans, not their ordinary seats.
Is Gaia practical for pets and kids even though it has loose cloud cushions?
Yes, with regular care. Gaia’s upholstery is removable and machine-washable, helping with spills and everyday pet messes. Its synthetic-fibre cloud cushions need periodic fluffing, and no fabric is scratch-proof. Choose from currently offered water- and stain-resistant or tighter-surface fabrics according to your household; loose/open weaves can catch claws. Replacement covers may be ordered separately on compatible modules. Gaia’s base covers are removable even though they are not fastened underneath the base with Velcro or another attachment.
Can I replace Gaia covers or cushions instead of replacing the entire sofa?
Yes. Gaia offers removable, washable and interchangeable upholstery; compatible replacement covers and modules can help extend the sofa’s useful life. Its loose fibre should be fluffed regularly, while the D35 foam core supports the seat beneath. If a particular cover or module is not stocked, Customer Happiness can explore availability or made-to-order options. A five-year limited warranty covers qualifying manufacturing defects; estimated frame or cushion lifetimes are not guarantees. An older cover may differ in shade from new material exposed to less sunlight.
Gaia Regular vs Gaia XL: how much wider and deeper is the seat?
Gaia XL provides more seating room than Regular without changing Gaia’s basic cloud-cushion construction. The listed Regular seat depth is about 61.5 cm (24.2 in), versus 65 cm (25.6 in) in XL; a two-seater is approximately 172 cm wide in Regular and 184 cm in XL. Both use soft synthetic-fibre cushions and a taller backrest. Choose XL if you want more room to stretch out, but compare usable seat depth and the full configuration footprint rather than assuming deeper is always more comfortable.
How big is a Gaia 2-, 3- or XL 3-seater for an apartment?
The listed Gaia Regular two-seater is approximately 172 cm (67.7 in) wide. A Regular three-seater with arms measures about 252 × 86 cm (99.2 × 33.9 in); the XL version measures around 270 × 92 cm (106.3 × 36.2 in). A Gaia ottoman used as a lounging extension changes the total depth, so measure the complete setup—not just the sofa—before buying. An armless or one-arm arrangement may be useful in a narrow room.
Can I start with a Gaia sofa and add a storage ottoman or sectional corner later?
Yes. Gaia is modular: compatible seats, corner pieces, arms and ottomans can be added or rearranged as needs change. You can start with a straight sofa, turn it into an L-sectional, or position a storage ottoman in front of a seat for a movable chaise-like lounging extension. Gaia’s regular seating modules do not have hidden storage; storage is available by choosing the Storage Ottoman rather than the Regular Ottoman. Confirm connectors, size and fabric compatibility when adding pieces years later.
Can Gaia’s ottoman create a left or right chaise without a fixed chaise module?
Yes. Gaia’s ottoman can be placed in front of a compatible seat to create a chaise-like lounging area on the left, right or another position as you rearrange. Unlike Ciello’s dedicated chaise module, this lounging extension is movable. The same ottoman role is available with Regular and XL sofas, but check dimensions and height for the exact combination. If hidden storage matters, choose the Gaia Storage Ottoman option, not the Regular Ottoman. The ordinary Gaia sofa seats do not contain storage.
Does the Gaia ottoman have storage, and which Gaia modules do not?
Gaia offers both a Regular Ottoman and a Storage Ottoman. Select Storage for a concealed compartment of approximately 80 L in the currently listed product specification; it still works as a footrest or movable lounging extension. A Regular Ottoman is a separate non-storage choice. Gaia’s standard seat and corner modules do not have integrated storage. Both Regular and XL Gaia sofas can use compatible ottomans, subject to configuration and module fit. Check the live configurator to select the storage type.
